Snowy Morning Blues
James P. Johnson’s bluesy classic.
This is the download version of this piece.
James P. Johnson was an important figure in the development of piano jazz. He taught Fats Waller to play stride piano. He composed numerous jazz standards but is perhaps best known for his composition “The Charleston”, sparking off the dance craze of the same name in the early 1920s!
His Snowy Morning Blues is a gentle little piece in G major with a distinctly non-blues harmonic pattern.
Difficulty level: slow and not too difficult to grasp – a few tricky bluesy features and some big chords need some practice.
Something for a wintery concert.
