When we started pushing our YouTube organ channel, my Mrs suggested adding a “hobby” channel to show viewers that I’m not just an organ nut, but also a car nut.
I’ve been daft about cars since I was a very young boy. Since getting my license back in 1990 I’ve owned far too many cars. there have been modern cars, classic cars, nice cars, crap cars – but all of them have been fun.
I tend not to hold on to any car for any length of time, but there is one that I’ve had longer than any other – my old Mercedes Benz SL from 1995. I bought it back in 2012. It belonged to an old friend that sadly passed away. His daughter inherited his collection of classics and the SL was his daily driver. It then became my daily driver and over the years, I have covered over 100,000km (60,000 miles!) on various trips around the world. It’s been “home” to the north of Scotland a couple of times, it’s been to the south of France and Italy many times.
Apart from normal maintenance, there have been no problems whatsoever. Now however, it’s beginning to show its age and there is a long list of things to do to return it to its former glory. Nothing serious, just wear and tear items that would need replacing on any car.
Let’s see how much I can get done before the car is back on the road in April 2020 – I only have it taxed for the road from April to October – it’s my summer car now!
As for the daily driver – that’s a topic for another post!
